My Unique Story

I bring 20+ years of international teaching experience to create meaningful, user-focused, human-centered design at the intersection of education, arts, and technology. Throughout my career, I’ve built a reputation on collaboration, connection, creativity, and problem-solving.

I am a multi-instrumentalist and sound artist with graduate degrees in Music Education (Columbia University) and Contemporary Arts. I explore photography, visual art, and sound experiences to support creative and meditative liminalities. Colleagues describe me as resourceful, innovative, and a genuine collaborator—driven by curiosity, creativity, and a commitment to making a positive impact.

Some of my key accomplishments include co-creating regional music festivals, leading performing arts teams, securing funding for artist-in-residence programs, and designing innovative curricula for Jazz @ Lincoln Center, where I piloted the award-winning WeBop! program. I have a track record of building music programs into high-quality, reputable experiences, and I’m now expanding into Human-Centered Design, EdTech (SeeSaw), sound design, and UX/IX to help create empathetic, user-focused solutions.

Accomplishments in Education and Sound

  • 2026 - Co-Created a pilot Contemporary Arts Festival for international schools in the Asia/Middle East region

    • Students 12-18 collaborate and creatively problem solve solutions to express their artistry through sound and art

  • 2024 - Received an MA in Contemporary Arts with a thesis focusing on the Ontology of Vibration

  • 2023 - Opened a sound studio in collaboration with Nora Lim, where I co-designed and co-facilitated sound experiences that were customized for individuals to receive the benefits of sound therapy and vibrational healing

  • 2019 - Co-planned, co-taught, and co-assessed an 8-week songwriting unit in collaboration with Deborah Lee and the choir and guitar classes.

    • The students had the autonomy to choose their band mates, create a band name, lyrics, chord changes, and form, and record their songs as a summative

    • We recorded the music in the studio and created AISC's first original album.

  • 2018 - Was granted approval for Dr. Kofi Gbolonyo as "Artist-in-Residence" to work with our bands and choirs to learn and perform the music from Ghana

    • Dr. Kofi is an ethnomusicologist and professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

    • This was one of the very best school concerts I have ever created. The audience never sat down; the students were so energized, they blew the roof off that theater! Concert band + Choir + Percussion ensemble, all singing, dancing, playing, and Improvising. During the concert, we couldn't stop them! One after another, students wanted their turn, their opportunity to be a part of something so magical, it's hard to describe.

  • 2018 - facilitated a Teacher PD weekend with Dr. Kofi, teaching teachers from all over the world the techniques of Orff-Shulwerk.

  • 2018 - Directed the regional music festival "Let Us Be Heard," inspired by the # MeToo movement

    • I created an original arrangement of the composition "My Shot" written by Lin-Manuel Miranda for band and choir

    • Collaborated with teachers in the region to combine ensembles from three schools and rehearse/perform together

  • 2016 - 1st place Winner of the South East Asia Band Regional Championships with my MS band (grades 7-8)

  • 2015 - Performed a 45-minute concert with our 125-member beginning band (their first band concert)

    • 24 flutes, 26 clarinets, 12 alto saxophones, 6 tenor saxophones, 18 trumpets, 14 trombones, 7 euphoniums, 2 bass guitars, and 16 percussionists.

    • I have never felt such a wall of sound, and the best part was the students who courageously improvised solos

  • 2012 - As a music teacher in Hong Kong, my Rock band classes performed at a mall in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, and a restaurant.

  • 2008 - Composed a beginning band piece with Indonesian Gamelan

    • Parents told me they had never seen/heard anything like it. I agree, to this day, I haven't either

  • 2008 - The percussion ensemble I started at PS161 in Harlem was invited to perform for the Chancellor of Education and appeared on NY1 television

  • 2007 - Volunteered at "Hekima Place" in Karen, Kenya (outside Nairobi), where I taught artistic experiences and documented the music-making of young orphaned girls who live at the Hekima Place orphanage

  • 2007 - Created a percussion ensemble with a city grant for 21 Djembe drums at P.S. 161 in Harlem, NYC

    • Taught the students in Harlem the music I learned from Hekima Place

  • 2005 - Inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi International Honors Society in Education

    • Kappa Delta Pi recognizes high professional, intellectual, and personal standards and outstanding contributions to education

  • 2004 - Co-created and taught the Jazz curriculum for young people at JAZZ@Lincoln Center's "WeBop!" program under the direction of Wynton Marsalis of J@LC and Dr. Lori Custodero of Teachers College, Columbia University

    • Taught Jazz experiences to children ages 2-5 with live musicians from the Jazz@Lincoln Center Orchestra

Education

2022-2023

M.A. Contemporary Arts

Simon Frasier University

British Columbia, Canada

Researched the ontology of sound vibration and its effect on consciousness, examining intersections between ancient Vedic traditions of Indian Rishis and contemporary studies in flow states, meditation, and sound therapy. Developed original sound designs and conducted immersive sound sessions using instruments tuned to A=432 Hz, crafted from multi-timbral materials (aluminum, brass, wood, crystal, stone). Findings highlighted how sound can facilitate states of meditation, presence, and expanded awareness.

2003-2005

M.A. Music Education
Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City

At Columbia, I explored how improvisation empowers young learners, blending constructivist methods with creative music-making. Working with Dr. Lori Custodero and Wynton Marsalis at Jazz at Lincoln Center, I helped design and launch WeBop!, a celebrated program introducing children and families to jazz through play, rhythm, and storytelling.

1999-2003

B.A. Jazz/Commercial Music

Five Towns College, New York

Immersed in the world of jazz performance and sound technology, I trained in improvisation, piano, ensemble work, and recording techniques. This period grounded me in both the artistry of live performance and the craft of studio production.
